Having talked much about Skills Development, the initiatives, the provisions and so on, let us see how people around India are trying to 'dig' Skills Development. A simple 'Skills Development India' on Google Analytics gave some surprsing (yet somewhere expected) results.
As can be seen from the figure, Southern India seems to be more 'aware' of Skills Development. Worse still, the awareness seems to be lesser in states that probably need it the most. Indeed, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Orissa report a search volume index of zero. Tamil Nadu tops the list with a search volume index of 100 even when according to the government reports, Tamil Nadu does not have a functional website dedicated to its State Skill Development Mission. Haryana has a search volume index of 84 and ranks third after Andhra Pradesh scores an 85. Punjab has an unsatisfactory index of 38. Same holds for Gujarat that has probably one of the most active State Skill Development Missions.
Moreover, the interest seems to have lost spirit with the search interest decreased by as much as 80% since an all time high in May, 2004, much before the inception of the NSDP in 2009.
On the brighter side, the interest in "vocational education" has increased by 100%.
Although it seems pretty vague, this tool for sure does offer some valuable insights about the impact of the efforts that have been put into Skills Development.
